The Abel Tasman is New Zealands smallest national park, with 23,000 hectares and 52km of coastal walks to be explored. With its forested coastline, golden beaches, beautiful bays & coves, this is a great place to explore, either on your own, or with a guide. Whether you want to cruise, walk, kayak or just relax on a beach, the options are endless!

Walking / Hiking – WE HAVE CAMPING EQUIPMENT HIRE AVAILABLE. Whether you have just a few hours or a few days, there are lots of options to choose from.The more serious walker can stay overnight, or do the inland or coastal track, which can take from 3 to 5 days. Booking a campsite or a hut is essential.

Biking – WE HAVE BIKE HIRE Motueka has many wonderful biking trail options with people arriving from all corners of the globe to ride our Great taste trail. Take a gentle ride down to the local beach, river of shops or head into the amazing Abel Tasman and enjoy the golden sand bike trails.

KayakingWE HAVE FREE KAYAKS (conditions apply please ask) Kayak the crystal clear waters and explore the spectacular coastline, with the chance of hopefully seeing fur seals, dolphins or shy little blue penguin.

Guided half, full day or overnight options, or for the experienced kayaker, you can hire your own (min of 2 people)

Boat trips – Water taxis based at Marahau & Kaiteriteri provide scheduled year round services allowing you to combine a scenic cruise & walk option.

Sailing – Enjoy a full day sailing, or combine with a kayaking or walking option also.

Horse riding – Enjoy a ride along Marahau’s golden sandy beaches, or through native bush & farm land.

All bookings can be taken care of right here at the Laughing Kiwi Backpackers, with most bus and activity providers able to pick you up with FREE return transfers, from outside our office.
